"For EVERY thing that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we MIGHT HAVE HOPE" (Romans 15:4).
That's it! That says it.
How many times have I tried to convince someone of the importance of reading the Word - on a consistent basis. It's not to be seen as a 'duty' or as one of the 'things' you SHOULD do if you want to live the Christian life. But - it's to encourage us and AS we are encouraged - hope arises within that can face ANY situation, be it in life or death.
The faithfulness of our loving God down through the ages will encourage any heart in the now of life. The verse says it was written to TEACH us. It is only as we SEEK to learn that we can be taught. The result of our knowledge is encouragement.
Encouragement = hope. They go together like twins.
Are YOU encouraged? Do YOU have hope?
