I've been hit. You've been hit. We've ALL been hit .....
.... with harsh words that fly out of someone's mouth as rapidly as machine gun fire, striking deadly blows to our mind, spirit and emotions. And we crawl away....
.... wounded ....
.... bleeding internally, wondering if we'll be able to survive THIS round of verbal attack.
"The heart of the righteous ponders (carefully considers) HOW to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things" (Proverbs 15:28).
It takes a few moments to put something on a scale, wait until the dial quits moving erratically, and then gently settles down to the accurate weight.
Why don't we weigh our WORDS as accurately? Deliberately placing them on the scale of righteousness, BEFORE we utter them.
Perhaps we need to take a closer look at that verse. "The heart of the RIGHTEOUS ....."
The Pharisee considered himself righteous. If we have problems weighing our answers and our mouth POURS out, then maybe it's time we take a good, hard, honest look at the source of our righteousness.
Is it our own, or HIS?
